The Theme of Julius Caesar How suitably is the theme of the supernatural depicted in the play ‘Julius Caesar’? William Shakespeare was one of the most influential playwrights, is known today for his plays such as Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, A Midsummer Nights Dream and many other interesting and different plays. We in the 21st century enjoy Shakespeare’s plays for a variety of reasons. His plays have different themes like love, ambition, pride, friendship, supernatural, etc. His language is rich and full of imagery. The Elizabethan audience believed deeply in the supernatural and superstition. They hungered for it. The use of unnatural events had a significant topical interest for the Elizabethan audience. The Elizabethans believed that the appearance of spirits was accompanied by a wind. It is also effective as a modern stage effect. In modern the atre, ghosts and supernatural occurrences are difficult to stage. The audiences of today are used to â€Å"realistic† theatre, such as Shakespeare’s ghost are produced on our stages with strange lightning effects, off-stage sounds. The Elizabethans had no such problem. They just accepted ghosts and witches as the case may be. This is how the supernatural would have had a lasting impression on them. Essay about Rhetorical Analysis of Antony’s Funeral Speech

On the Ides of March in 44 B.C., Roman Emperor Julius Caesar was stabbed to death by a group of prominent politicians led by Marcus Brutus. The sudden death of Caesar created a power vacuum which gave rise of a two factions, one headed by Brutus and Cassius and the other by Antony and the future triumvirs. Shortly after Caesar’s death, Antony spoke at his funeral and used the opportunity to lead the Roman people away from Brutus and back to believing in Caesar and consequently, the Second Triumvirate. By combining a subtle use of questions and interjections to keep audience engaged, a variety of rhetorical devices devices that dignify Caesar and himself, and an effective use of all three modes of persuasion, Antony is able to convert the†¦show more content†¦However, the most important use of a rhetorical question is in the last line where he challenges his audience if there â€Å"comes such another [Caesar]?†. Here the rhetorical question serves to summarize t he greatness of Caesar and to pass the responsibility for future actions onto the listeners. As a result, the people will be more likely to act against the conspirators after they have realized there will not be anyone as good as Caesar. By keeping his listeners thoroughly engaged, Antony is able to further develop on his purpose by utilizing diverse rhetorical devices. Near the beginning, he makes effective use of parallelism to list Caesar’s selfless deeds, like â€Å"when that the poor have cried, Caesar hath wept†, which gives the effect that the list is so long that Antony cannot describe it in unique detail. Additionally, his parallel repetition of â€Å"Brutus says he was ambitious and Brutus is an honorable man† serves as sarcasm. By repeating each good action with these two lines, Antony is getting the audience to contrast Caesar’s endless good deeds with Brutus’s repetitive and conflicting argument. To Kill A Mocking Bird, A Harper Lee Classic And Pulitzer Prize Winner

To Kill a Mocking Bird, a Harper Lee classic and Pulitzer prize winner, is a controversial book . It deals with racism in the south, which means white vs. black. In the book, To Kill a Mocking Bird the community believes that the black man is guilty, despite any evidence, and will stop at nothing until he is dead. The notion that blacks are less human than whites is dispicable. The characters in this novel, knew full well that the black people were no different deep down inside. They taught there children that black people were inferior. Black people, were and are as good if not better, than the white people. Their brain power was equal to the white man's. The notion that black people's soul was different, and therefore it didn't matter what happened to them ,because they were all going to hell, was prevalent. The white people of the south in the 1930's, as depicted in To Kill a Mocking Bird, believed that blacks had inferior minds. That idea was atroshish because at that time black inventors were inventing all kinds of modern technology, like the neon light bulb. Black people were not inferior to the white, they just didn't have the advantages of a good education. If anything they were smarter, because they strived to learn . Black people were just as intellegent as the whites but were thought of as less, because they were different. The book also made the statement that black people were hard workers, who could do anything the white people could do and sometimes do it better. The black people also did their work for less money, and they still went out of their way to help the people that treated them different. Tom Robinson eventually lost his life by helping a white woman, who lied to hang an innocent man. She also covered up for a lazy white man who drank to much. This, in my mind, was the worst obstruction of justice ever. The consensus of opinion, in the 30's was that Black people would go to hell, so it didn't matter whether or not Tom Robinson hung. This is wrong, and the people that said it probably went to church every week, and sat in the front pew. However Aticus and the people at the black church, knew the truth, and served God regardless of the other people's beliefs. When Jem and Scout went to the Black church, they realized the truth too. The black people did everything just like them, and genuinely cared about people. The book To Kill a Mocking Bird, portrayed two different opinions. One was stronger than the other, and the other one was right. Black people are no different from white people. If only the majority of the Maycomb county people knew that in the 1930's, the outcome would have been different.
